Ortho-what? … Ortho-Bionomy ®

is a highly effective gentle body work therapy based in a simple, profound philosophy: allow the body to correct itself. It started when founder, British Osteopath Dr Arthur Pauls, began exploring the principles of non-force corrective techniques in the 1970’s. Ortho-Bionomy is taught and recognized worldwide for its gentle, simple and lasting effectiveness.

What are the Benefits?

Sometimes the body’s natural ability to remain balanced is short circuited by stress, injury, improper posture, emotional experiences or by overtaxing the body’s limits. When the body is out of balance, it adapts as well as it can, but in the process it may create patterns of even greater stress. The techniques help to unlock tension, relieve pain, promote recovery from injury, increase comfort in the body, re-educate dysfunctional patterns and restore more functional posture.

What happens in a session?

An Ortho-Bionomy session lasts about one hour. A strong focus is placed on the comfort of the individual. Put simply some of the techniques include: gentle, conscious contact with the hands, locating and addressing points of tension or sensitivity, comfortable body-positioning for release, with compression into the joints and some isometric or isotonic techniques. The client is fully dressed without shoes and no oil is used. No forceful movements or pressures are used. Ortho-Bionomy is about working with, rather than on clients.

‘When we work in Ortho-Bionomy, we help clients get more than a sense of feeling better. We actually facilitate the process that enables them to experience their innate wholeness. Because we can meet our clients on all different levels–structural, muscular, lymphatic, visceral, and emotional, to name a few–we are ideally situated to offer them support in ways that are totally unique for them. By focusing on reconnecting clients with their capacity to self correct and self heal we are able to allow more to happen. We then assist them in making the conscious and unconscious choices necessary for them to experience that sense of “wholeness”.’
